DigiPen Career Day
Visits to my school from members of the game industry

Today my school,
DigiPen
, held a career day for the graduating seniors. DigiPen specializes in game development, so the career day consisted of recruiters from the game industry getting a chance to look at senior projects and convincing students to apply with them.
I'm not graduating this year so I didn't have an explicit reason to attend the event, but I went anyway to see what kind of companies were hiring. The school claimed that thirty-five companies were represented. Five companies gave presentation pitches to convince students that they would be a good place to work: Amaze Entertainment, Big Huge Games, Monolith, Gas Powered Games, and Wizards of the Coast. There were some really cool people giving presentations, it makes me glad I will be getting into the industry.
The presenter from Big Huge Games graduated from DigiPen last year. He was a tutor for my computer graphics courses that year, so although I wouldn't say that I know him, I had at least made his acquaintance. I got the chance to talk with him a bit about the game he is working on, Rise of Legends. He is working on graphical effects for the game, and said that the final version is significantly better than the demo that was recently released. It was pretty cool to have a conversation with someone working on a game that I am actually somewhat excited about.
In one year I will be the one looking for a job; I hope to have a sweet senior project by that time. Until then I am happy with the knowledge that my chosen profession is full of cool people and looking for more.
